Sage Software is now shipping the latest release of their time and billing software, Timeslips 2010. This is the first year that I did not beta test the product, so I've just been using it for the past few weeks. As with any new software release, there have been a few reported problems. The good news is that Timeslips will be issuing a maintenance release shortly. This is wonderful news. Many of you may remember in the past, it would take a few months before a service release was issued. It was so annoying to live with the little "glitches" for weeks on end before they were finally fixed. If you are installing the new version, remember to check for updates before you start using the software.
So what's new with this version? Here are some of my favorites:
- Print to Excel: See the report in columns or "as displayed", so it will look like the printed version.
- Client Not Billed report: See which clients have not been billed since a specific date. This is an easy way to determine which clients can be made inactive or closed.
- History Bill now includes a grand total at the end, not just subtotals for time and expense.
- Custom fields for money, percentage, number and hours. These fields can be used in custom report calculations.

With this version, Timeslips did more than just add new features. There's a lot that you can't see, but will appreciate anyway. They took a look at the program code and cleaned up over 300 legacy defects. They added a new billing and reporting engine. All of these "under the hood" changes result in improved speed, stability and performance.
If you are wondering if now is the time to upgrade, please read my article in a previous blog, When Should You Upgrade? It will help you decide on the best time to purchase and implement new software upgrades.
You can purchase Timeslips upgrades directly from Sage or from Compu-Aid (our pricing is better). If you are interested in getting the latest special price, please email joanh@compuaid-inc.com
